Dunkel Lagers originate from Munich, where they’ve been brewed for over 900 years. They are possibly the best example of a beer style that showcases a single ingredient, in this case: Munich Barley Malt. In order to achieve the deeply layered, yet incredibly clean malt depth that the style is known for, we employed a double-decoction mash for this beer. As with all Riggs Lagers, we gave this beer the traditional German Lager treatment: precise dosing of fresh lager yeast along with a very slow and cold fermentation schedule.

From a 16oz can. Canned on 12/31/2024
The beer is a beautiful copper color in the glass. Nice clarity to the beer. There's a 2 finger tan head that does have pretty good retention and a bit of clingy lacing on the glass.
There's a bit of caramel malts that hit my nose with tones of toffee. Notes or a roasted nut aroma also show up in the aroma.
Wow, the flavor has a lot going on here. There''s a great roasted nut flavor that does linger. There's nice bits of caramel and toffee also hitting my taste buds. I also get a faint hint of a chocolate malt on my taste buds. Very well balanced flavors. This reminds me of something made in Germany.
The body feels so damn good. There's a crisp and creamy feeling to this beer. It has a great fullness that seems more than it should be for a 5% beer.
Wow, this is damn good tasting overall. A very well made beer. I am not sure if they're using the Reinheitsgebot standards to make this beer, but, it wouldn't surprise me if they are.

Growler from the brewery
Foam is dark beige to light tan in color with quite a bit longer than average retention, fading to a thin ring around the glass. Lacing is very good. Body is a golden orange color (SRM 12-15). Transparent.
Aroma of lighter toasted malts, some sweetness created by Maillard reactions that mimic light caramel, and an occasional hint of toasted nuts.
Flavor of lightly toasted malt with a good "depth" (ie, heavy and deep, as opposed to layered complexity) to it, likely from the double decoction. This results in some toasted bread and dry bread crust flavor, sweetness created by Maillard reactions that mimics light caramel malt character, and a slight nuttiness. Just a hint of hop bitterness to dry the lingering toasted malt close and aftertaste.
Beer is medium-bodied, with carbonation of medium intensity (2.3-2.4 vol CO2), resulting in a balanced soft foaminess to smoothness across the palate. Closes dry, with medium stickiness on lips and palate.
