Spike Brewery

Spike is one of my favorite breweries, so I was stoked to finally get out to their taproom. It's located a bit outside of Gothenburg, but it's easy to get to by tram. The taproom is located in an industrial area and i a bit hard to find. Look for the skateboard ramp! Now, due to misunderstanding I got here on a Wednesday, when they weren't actually open. David was nice enough to take time out to talk to me about the brewery, beer and Gothenburg in general. Great guy!

I returned on Friday, when they were actually open. The taproom itself is one of the funkiest and most ecclectic I've seen. It spans two floors, with numerous different rooms and styles, and some seriusly weird lighting in places. Such a fun space!

Beer selection is ten taps and a bunch of cans. Now, Sweden has some peculiar laws regarding serving alcohol, so a place like this can only serve samples, about 2 dl (6 oz) each. This goes for the cans as well, which was a bit strange. They can also serve a maximum of 8 beers per person. This may sound odd, but a perk of that is that noone here is drunk of their ass, and that makes the vibe and mood very friendly and open. Spike don't serve food themselves, but there is usually a food truck outside.

Now, I've loved Spike since I first tried their beer, but I have even more affinity for them now, and a lot of that is don to owner David. He took time out on the Friday as well, even though he was leaving to be with his family, to show me around the brewery and even get a sneak peek of the space across the road that they'll be moving to. This was way outuside of what he needed to do, but his passion and pride for Spike is evident.

Overall, I LOVED this place, and will return every time I'm in Gothenburg.
