Thanks to RedhawkPoke for this one, from NBS BIF #12 box. 16oz can (no date) poured into 14oz teku. Poured the anticipated solid black color with about 2/3 inch of tan head that had moderate retention and no lacing.
Lots of roast at the front of the nose, with some chocolate notes behind.
Same on the tongue, but reversed a bit; the chocolate had the front-middle, and the roast dominate the middle-back, and really hung on the back of the tongue.
The body was was, perhaps, a touch on the thin side, but was still full enough to sip, not slam. The finish was sweet at first, but dried out after a minute.
Drinkability was very nice, easier than a lot of the current pastry/barreled takes on the style.
Overall, a nicely solid take on the project. certainly worth your time if you get the chance.

Pours an effervescent ebony with a sliver of mocha colored head. Some lacing & head retention
S: Much roastyness & a little plum
T: Roasty dryness, a little dark chocolate, smokeyness up front. Roasty dryness, a little Baker's Chocolate, a smidge of iron & coffee as this warms, just a little cocoa as well. Finishes dry, roasty with a little iron, plus some woody hops
MF: Medium body, dialed back carbonation
A solid AIS, these beers don't get the awe & respect they used to, due to all barrel aged & adjunct iterations out there
