Pours jet black. Looks thick enough to collapse a McDonald’s straw. Tries to produce a head, but it’s more like bubbles you get from shaking up a bottle of milk or juice.. just protein and sugars binding together not carbonation.
This is more of a bourbon aged in stout barrels than the other way around. Tons of charred oak, damp burned firewood, very light smoke and dark chocolate.
Flavors of rich, overcooked caramel, tobacco, and a combination of oak tannins and dark chocolate dryness. Sweetness is nonexistent, as the malt bill lets the barrel take charge. Gets better and better as it warms.
Great example of what a bourbon barrel can do. An awesome sipper.
