a mild but solid offering from these guys, who i so rarely get to drink beer from, but they do a good job, underrated locally here i reckon. this is a fine example of the style, albeit on the very light side of things, brassy more than brown to look at, and without a lot of body or depth, but what it lacks there, it more than compensates for in drinkability, which i love in a brown ale. i also really like what the english yeast adds, it seems to give this an old world appeal, and some complexity where the grain maybe doesnt. subtle caramel apple, light cocoa, amber malts, and bready baked sort of english yeast with some minerals to back it up. not much there at the end, dry for the style, fast finishing and light, even vacuous, but its a pint beer, and a serviceable one at that. i dont need a ton from a light english brown, i just want it to taste good and feel right, and this one does. something autumnal and simple, worthwhile but not demanding much attention as i drink on it. respectable by any standard...
