First had: on tap at their brewpub
Of all the brews I had at Pumphouse (quite a few), the Shockwave probably impressed me the least, and the oak-aged version was not much better. Poured a dark reddish-mahogany with only a few scattered bubbles for a head, as would be expected for the style. Not too much in the aroma, as with the original. Mainly sweet malts, caramel, and just a hint of oak. Taste was pretty bland, but a notch better than the original; sweet caramel malts, with touches of vanilla and oak, and a bit of toasted bread. Heavy-medium mouthfeel, thick and chewy. Not really bad overall, but not something I'd want to sample again. I find more and more that Scotch ales are pretty disappointing.
