Barrel aged honey oat saison
Gardner’s Bounty is a barrel-aged honey oat saison that was brewed with 62 pounds of organic raw honey from Ames Farm in Delano and a malt bill of 60 percent pils and 40 percent oats. Aged in oak barrels for more than a year, this lightly funky ale balances the sweetness of the honey with the chewy oats to create a mead-esque saison with notes of light citrus and an enticing nose of tropical flowers.

There was a moment upon pouring that the barnyard was quite strong and seemed to have a quality of the oats too. Becomes cleaner and quite spritzy and zesty with a sharp carbonation making for noisy pour.
Quite clean upon pour until the bottom, when big chunks from the bottom began to engage with the glass. Not so attractive then. Almost like a lava lamp with hunks of something floating around. Head was white, loud and very short lived.
Tart and a little warm (alcohol). Strongest funk stays in the aroma, with only hints in the taste. More tart with citrus type fruit. Pretty clean with some soft funk laying on the tongue for a moderately soft finish.
Pleasing.

Poured from 750ml bottle into glass. Released at the tap room on 6/23/2018.
Cloudy, pale gold colored body. Minimal head and lacing, but rising bubbles constantly feed a very thin ring.
Lemon honey in the aroma, also oak barrel. Has a rich grain quality, probably from the sharply flavored oats. Smells tart and funky, but with a sweetness from the honey.
Taste is a complex of mead like honey, tart and sour lemon, and a background of oak barrel and sharp oats. The farmyard funk is mild but there, certainly. Has a high note similar to slightly burnt toast. Dry finish.
Medium mouth feel. Quite a bit of carbonation in the mouth.
This is a tasty farmyard ale 'as is', but additional bottle aging may result in a more mellow balance.
