Foeder-aged Vienna Lager hopped with Saaz. A rich and malty character is one that certainly benefits from the slight oaky and tannic character extracted from the Foeder. This beer spent a full month lagering cold in the foeder, for a total production time of 6 weeks, and the result is a crisp yet rich lager that we’re proud to present. Fire in the glass has notes of toasted bread, a touch of malt sweetness, and your grandfather’s hard toffee candy.

Aroma is sweet bread, a bit of tropical fruit, and a bit of spice.
Slightly hazy to clear amber with plenty of rising bubbles to a short, but thick, head with decent retention. The head leaves a wall of lacing behind as it recedes, and generous lacing as the beer is consumed. A nice looking beer; would be even nicer with a bit more of a head.
Taste is very pleasing. As foreshadowed by the aroma, sweet bread and tropical fruit, with a bit of peppery spiciness to set it off. Just a little bittering in the middle and finish. The finish is a bit sweet, but not overly so. It has just enough nudge away from sweet by the pepperiness to invite the next drink. This beer was brewed with Saaz hops, which accounts for the peppery spiciness, but I got more of a fruit flavor versus earthiness or herbal. I found it to be very tasty.
The mouth feel is moderate, smooth, and with a good body for the style. A bit of tingling from the carbonation.
Overall, an enjoyable and easy drinking Vienna lager.
