On tap in a Pilsner pint glass at Revelation Brewing.

See through copper colored brew. Off-white modest cap with limited lacing. It holds a rim.

Caramel malt and mild herbal hop aromas. The caramel and the sweets hang out front in the aroma….

…. then drop back in the flavor. Malt with a bit of caramel that’s not too sweet. It’s soaked into sourdough.

Light bodied, smooth feel, balanced hops and sweets.

Tasty with a good look. And it goes well on a warm spring day.

From the can it pours a clear brown color. Looking darker in the glass, it appears dark mahogany with hints of ruby. A large foamy and lathery head displays amazing retention and lots of lacing.

The aroma displays sweet notes of toasted, biscuity and toffee/caramel malts. In addition, there are notes of dark fruit with aromas of plum, raisins and cherry.

Sweet and chewy with rich notes of biscuity, toasty and caramel malts. Medium to full bodied with a sticky, soft and doughy mouthfeel. The carbonation is relatively gentle. The sweetness felt somewhat cloying at times, with notes of brown sugar and jammy dark fruit. However, some earthy hops spice does belatedly develop and adds a modest touch of balancing bitterness. A sticky and long caramel like finish; I would have preferred a bit drier. The alcohol is well hidden.

A bit on the sweet side due to the higher alcohol content. I would have preferred something drier and more drinkable as perhaps I’m used to something simpler and pedestrian in the style such as Smithwick’s. However, this kind of grew on me the 3rd time I had it (can 3 of a 4 pack; not in one sitting) as it felt a bit more balanced with more hops spice and bitterness.
