Balanced and smooth, firm yet not over-powering bitterness, and bright malt notes with a clean finish will certainly leave you wanting more. 3rd Rock Brewing Co. "Light Year Double IPA"
16 fl. oz. can, "CANNED ON 3/20/2018
$2.99 @ Roger Wilco, Pennsauken, NJ
Notes via stream of consciousness: It's poured a cloudy deep-amber body beneath a massive head of creamy off-white foam. The aroma is floral, fruity/citrusy, and gently caramel-malty. It totally brings me back to the 3-C's IPAs that were so popular in the late 90's and early 2000's. It's not really that bright though, at least for a double IPA. There are pale ales that have a strong hop aroma. Anyway, on to the flavor... well it remains the same. I get some more fruitiness, perhaps like berries, and some soft dried pine needles and earthiness that's like the floor of a pine forest. It's not overly malty as some double IPAs can be, nor is it too bitter. It's nicely balanced and it finishes mostly dry with a dollop of sweetish, wheaty and caramelish malt steadily fading. The head has dropped by this point but it maintains a thin but solid, creamy surface covering. There's some nice lacing as well. I'm still questioning the haze but I guess I have to allow it and let it go as hazy beers are deemed acceptable theses days. It sure would look nice if it was clearer though. In the mouth it's medium bodied leaning towards medium full, and smooth with a fine-bubbled median carbonation. Overall it's a nicely done old school double IPA.

A: This poured a clear copper with a little white head.
S: It smelled like grapefruit and pineapple, with some resin hops.
T: It tasted like citrus zest, with some pineapple and resin hops. It had a clean bitter aftertaste with some alcohol warming.
M: It was watery with moderate carbonation. Decent body.
D: This was a decent double IPA with simple but enjoyable scent and taste. The body was ok and the finish was hot, so it was not the easiest to drink. Not bad but ultimately forgettable.

Silky smooth and approachable. Heavy citrus nose followed by heavy juice flavors. Low bitter throughout. Juice bomb.
