Collaboration with Brouwerij De Ryck & Kaapse Brouwers
ARGON marries the caramel malt profile and ester character of a traditional Spéciale Belge with the orange marmalade and resinous qualities of the citra, simcoe and mandarina bavaria hop varieties used in late additions and dry-hop. It is part of a special six-pack of beers—the Noble Gas Project—created with twelve other breweries to celebrate the third birthday of Siphon Brewing.

Pours a slightly cloudy, deep, dark amber coloration with a small, fizzy head. Smells of bready, caramel malt and hoppy notes of citrus fruit and pine, with just a hint of dark fruits. Taste follows the nose, with an interesting balance of bready, caramel malt, hoppy notes of grapefruit and pine and just a hint of dark fruit and estery yeast. Finishes with a medium/strong bitterness and some citrus and pine lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.
This is basically a cross between and Belgian Pale Ale and a West Coast IPA and it really works rather well, except for the fact that the balance is shifted rather heavily towards the WCIPA, with strong, hoppy grapefruit and pine notes and the Belgian yeast taking a bit of a backseat. Still, there is a rather nice, subtle complexity to this, making for a rather unique, unusual and quite enjoyable beer.
