946ml (a quart, I guess), bottle (hand dated July 9, so, pretty fresh then), part of a sextet of products made available by this very new operation that seems to span the booze quotient of rural Didsbury, Alberta.

This beer pours a clear, bright medium copper amber colour, with one skinny-ass finger of puffy, weakly foamy, and somewhat bubbly beige head, which leaves some coral reef atoll lace around the glass as things slowly sink away.

It smells of bready and crackery caramel malt, a touch of wayward son yeastiness, indistinct citrus rind, subtle ashy notes, and plain leafy, weedy, and floral green hop bitters. The taste is gritty caramel malt, some further biscuity pale graininess, ethereal citrus and dry pome fruit, a still steady damp ashiness, and more growing leafy, piney, and earthy hoppiness.

The carbonation is fairly tame in its hard to nail down frothiness, the body a decent middleweight, and mostly smooth, just a steady generic bitterness not really considering its tromping through the rose bushes all that carefully here. It finishes quite dry, the malt having more or less bled out, while the mixed greenery keeps on not beating around the proverbial bush.

Overall, I'm getting much more of an ESB vibe from this offering, as the malt seems to be the star, at least in comparison to the timid hops. Pleasant enough, I gotta say, and a new twist on the local Wild Rose Country scene, for sure, but I would proffer that a bit more hop oomph is needed here to have this one be in the same ballpark as what's going on in neighbouring burgs, IPA-wise.
