946ml 'howler' from the liquor store in Didsbury that handles this nascent Alberta brewery's mid-week off-sales.

This beer pours a clear, pale golden straw colour, with one finger of weakly puffy, finely foamy, and somewhat creamy dirty white head, which leaves some layered disintegrating ice shelf lace around the glass as it quickly abates.

It smells of grainy and crackery pale malt, some subtle pome fruitiness, tame petrol fumes, and gentle leafy, weedy, and floral noble hop bitters. The taste is gritty and grainy pale malt, a touch of innocuous yeast, muddled light orchard fruit, faint estery gasohol, and more plain earthy, leafy, and floral hoppiness.

The carbonation is quite active in its fizzy and frothy emanations, the body a so-so medium weight, and generally smooth, with a small airy creaminess kicking about shortly after takeoff here. It finishes off-dry, barely, as the basic bitch malt starts to falter a bit, with the hops and gas station essences ramping up.

Overall, this is a serviceable, if plain iteration of the Teutonic pilsner greats - apery more than overt imitation, IMHO. A mite bit better than their Kaiser Lager, in that there are no obvious brewing flaws, which renders this drinkable in a 'don't think too hard about it' sense.
