Stout. 5-5.0% ABV. On-draught @ the brewpub. 0.3L/35000 VND. Review below is truncated.
A: Khaki head with decent cream. Opaque black body. No yeast or lees visible within. Standard stout appearance.
Sm: Malted milk balls/whoppers, dark malts, licorice/fennel/anise family spice, some kind of fruity off-note (rotten grape, maybe?), and aromatics indicative of dirty tap lines.
Aromatic intensity is below average.
I find no roasted barley, chocolate malt, or cream.
T&Mf: Taste follows the aroma, with prominent off-flavour but a pleasant addition of burnt malt character.
Texture is standard: smooth, wet, creamy, medium-bodied. Not the dry coarse feel of an Irish dry stout, but decent for an Americanized Vietnamese stout. Overcarbonated.
O: Vietnam, your country has the best coffee in the world. Start using it in your stouts along with far more roasted barley. Then clean your tap lines and take control of your water chemistry. This is a rather poor attempt at a stout, and it's a damned shame.
High D- (2.00) / AVOID
