Growler filled a few hours prior at the brewery. Very dark orange body with excellent clarity and a huge tan head with strong retention and sticky lace. Beautiful beer but untypical appearance for the style.
Aroma is a bit subdued and I was hoping for more of the fruity tropical notes one expects from these hops to burst from the glass. They are there but faint as well as a subtle alcohol note and some typical malt characteristics.
Drinks like an old school IPA or even DIPA with prominent alcohol and sweet greasy malt overwhelming the more delicate fruity hop notes and even the catty citra flavors....initial bitterness lingers a bit but is subsumed by the rounding sweetness of the finish; not so dry.
Medium to slightly fuller bodied and a bit creamy. Carbonation is right on point and down the middle. Overall I have mixed feelings; some aspects of this beer are very appealing but ultimately fails to deliver the hoppy deliciousness I look for in an IPA, particularly one trumpeting its citra and mosaic components.
Edit: upon multiple returns initial impressions confirmed; decent beer but pales next to their "hops to the face." This one is drinkable but doesn't rise much above the level of solid home brew.
