Description: Inky black with a finger of light khaki head when poured into a snifter. Smell is big, with heavy notes of vanilla, bourbon, raisin and dark fruits. Very rich. Taste is not quite as pronounced as the aroma but all the same flavors are there, i.e., vanilla, raisin, bourbon and some dark cherry. Feel is smooth and thick, as appropriate for a RIS.
Overall: 4.25 (This beer is good and I would likely drink it again) For a brewery this small - essentially a local brewpub - my expectations were not that high. I mean, we've all been to these places before, that are the best in town but not that objectively good. Sort of like when a sports team wins its division almost by default because all the other teams suck. Well, this beer is NOT that. I'd say that this beer/brewer are surprisingly good. I've certainly had stouts from far larger and more reputable brewers that didn't measure up to this. If you're in the area, definitely make this a 'to-do'.

Taste: Bold dark molasses, malt, raisins, licorice, woody bourbon notes. Warming finish. Nose is similar to taste in every way. Black/Brown, mostly opaque, with a smaller tan head and delicate lace. Full Body. Resembles some of the Dark Lord stouts.
