Theirs is a veteran-owned & -run brewery, but this one seems like they may have lost a bet. It is my underCANding that they are Army vets & yet this one seems to indicate that they are rooting for Navy in the annual Army-Navy Game! Haha. I am a retired U.S. Navy sailor so this is okay by me.

From the CAN: The Golden Knight holds a guide-on that reads "Backward Flag Brewing Co." while the anchor-tattooed goat's reads "Tattered Flag"; "Go Blue Beat Green"; "Historic Rivalry is a New England IPA brewed as a collaboration between Army veteran owned Backward Flag and Navy Veteran owned Tattered Flag. The beer is a nod to the historic rivalry between the Army and Navy football teams whose first meeting took place on November 29th, 1890. The limited edition YCH 2018 Veteran's blend of hops was used in large doses to create an amazingly tropical and juicy IPA. YCH is donating $3 per lb to the SEMPER FI Fund which is dedicated to providing urgently needed resources for post 9/11 combat wounded, critically ill and injured members of the Military and their families."

Wow! I Crack!ed open the vent to reveal a brimful craft CAN that first spritzed across my fingertips & then beCAN foaming through the vent, forcing me to begin a C-Line Glug to get things under CANtrol. Boy howdy, did this one ever fizz & foam! It finally formed just over a finger of fizzy, foamy, soapy, off-white head with very limited retention. Color was a cloudy, nay, murky Golden-Amber (SRM = > 5, < 7). Nose smelled of tropical fruits & citrusy grapefruit. Mmm. Mouthfeel was thin-to-medium, not watery, but not far past it, either. The taste was nice with a definite grapefruit citrusiness to offset the usually unrelenting sweetness of the tropical fruitiness. It was still fairly fruity sweet, but the citrusiness took some of the edge off or more precisely, put an edge on that it might not have otherwise had. Speaking of an edge, finish was semi-dry which I do not often get in the style. This was more towards my wheelhouse, but it still was not the sort of thing that I would want as a steady diet. YMMV.
