I spent a CANsiderable amount of time yesterday taking & resizing pictures of (especially) CANs since one of the basic tenets of The CANQuest (tm) is NO drinking, reviewing & rating of beers until an approved pic is in place. This CAN CANtribute to the backlog, but I just CANnot bring myself to Crack! open a CAN when there is no pic for posterity. It especially galls me when a brewery claims themselves on here & then does not do due diligence.

From the CAN: "Boulangerie Stout Series"; "Malt Beverage with Natural Flavors".

This one got my attention when the lip pooched up a little bit & had to immediately go into the reefer for some calming time. The pooch caused me a little difficulty when employing the tab to Crack! open the vent, but I am exbeerienced in such matters & was able to overcome it. It was super carbonated with some fizzing coming through the vent & forcing me to begin my C-Line Glug more quickly than I would have preferred. This was a highly active beer, creating a massive amount of foam that eventually settled into two-plus fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, deep-brown head with excellent retention. Color was solidly Black/Opaque (SRM = 44), allowing ZERO light penetration. Nose was definitely chocolaty & put me in mind of a Milk/Sweet Stout, but the brewery did not mention anything about Lactose sugar. Hmm. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste was very chocolaty, but more towards milk chocolate than dark chocolate. It was really quite sweet & overwhelmed both the pomegranate & what I assume to have been coconut for macaroon. I was really at a loss as far as what to make of it. At its base, it was certainly a Stout, albeit a very sweet one. But, since it was supposed to be evocative of a bakery treat, it fell short in that regard. Finish remained sweet & chocolaty, ensuring that one was plenty for me. YMMV.
