16 ounce can into pint glass, no can dating. Pours clear very dark brown color with a 1 finger fairly dense and fluffy khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a light amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, roasted nuts, toasted biscuit, and dark/brown bread; with lighter notes of molasses, toffee, wood smoke, charcoal, dark fruit, herbal, floral, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/black/bready malts, earthy hops, and light fruity yeast notes; with great strength. Taste of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, roasted nuts, toasted biscuit, and dark/brown bread; with lighter notes of molasses, toffee, wood smoke, charcoal, dark fruit, herbal, floral, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate herbal, floral, grassy, peppery hop; and roast/charred bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, roasted nuts, toasted biscuit, dark/brown bread, wood smoke, charcoal, dark fruit, herbal, floral, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/black/bready malts, earthy hops, and light fruity yeast flavors; with a great roast/hop bitter/sweet balance, and no acrid/astringent flavors after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering hop/char bitterness. Medium carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready/grainy, and fairly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 5%. Overall this is an awesome English porter. All around complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/black/bready malts, earthy hops, and light fruity yeast flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the modestly bitter/charred/drying finish. Very flavorful for the low ABV. Nicely rich and well rounded English malt complexity, balancing English hops, and mild fruity yeast presence. A very enjoyable offering, and spot on style example.

Appearance – Pours black with a thin mocha colored head that quickly dissipates to a thin ring with swirling lines of bubbles on top. No lacing.
Aroma – Roasted malt comes out beautifully , chocolate, light coffee, very mild vanilla sweetness a hint of smokiness.
Taste – No where near as sweet as the nose let’s on. Roasted malts, smoke and some charred wood, bakers chocolate, coffee grounds, a hint of toffee takes the edge off some of the bitterness from the char. Very complex flavors.
Feel – Light side of medium body, well carbonated, mildly dry finish the smoke and char linger.
Overall – A really well done porter, the flavors are solid I am a fan of a smoky beer and this one has just the right amount of char while still letting the coffee and chocolate come though.
