Poured from the bottle into a Barn Hammer tulip glass.
Opaque quite a bit for the body, but with some hint of clarity through a deep dark mahogany red. Creamy light tan top, fairly dark too but with a lighter touch of cream and fine bubbles. Good bowled puck and crowned top as well. Very nice looking.
Very distinct spiced aroma. This has a very strong fruit cake like quality, dried spicy fruits, citroen and cinnamon flavors on the nose are very abundant with a thick cake malt like sensation. Touches of nice clove and excellent sweetness.
Palate goes a bit simple. Very wet bodied for a winter like ale, with a washing malt flavor and texture. Light bodied clove and nutmeg with little less tannic heat and qualities. Finishes a bit clean and almost session like, but does have a good stomach like warmth. Has a touch of light apple skin a bit in fruit flavor, but not green or faulty. A little touch of biscuity and brown sugar gives a nice little touch of sweetness.
This is a very good base flavor for a winter warmer/brew but the body is just not quite there in the malt department. Comes off like a sessionable watery brew too much, potential is there to be better. Easily drinkable at least and things could be far worse.
