Got a growler of this at the brewery earlier this evening, as growler fills on Sundays are only $5.00 at the brewery. Poured into one of my tulip glasses, this beer pours a very dark brown, almost black color that's not at all interested in letting in any light whatsoever. Has a tan/light brown head that's about 2/3 of an inch thick when first served with lots of streams of little bubbles fairly rapidly and continuously rising to the beer's surface. Good lacing too. The head eventually settles to a nice, thick coating of foam on the beer's surface. Aromas of toasted, somewhat bready malts with some caramel sweetness that almost immediately gives way to earthy, floral, also resinous, dank hops. The taste is pretty much the same, with toasted, somewhat bready malts with some caramel sweetness that is quickly followed by earthy slightly flora, dank and resinous hop bitterness. While the hops certainly dominate the flavor profile here overall, the flavors are well balanced overall. Has a crisp, also smooth and somewhat frothy, slightly prickly mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. Has a clean finish with a nice roasty and bitter aftertaste. Easy to drink in the way good beer ought to be. Also hits the nail right on the head for the style.
