Unlike a stout or a porter, this black lager is brewed to be much lighter in body with a smooth crisp finish and bittersweet notes of coffee and cocoa. We've all had enough of the cold so stop in today and help fight off the evil spirits of winter.

Got a growler of this when I was at the brewery earlier today, as today was $5.00 growler day. Poured into one of my pokal glasses, this beer pours a very dark brown, practically black color with a nice, think tan head that's well over an inch thick. Settles eventually to a thick ring lining the inside of the glass, a nice big cluster swirl of surface foam, and excellent lacing. Aromas of roasted, camel malt sweetness along with hints of chocolate and coffee. This is followed by some slightly piney, earthy, and somewhat floral hop bitterness. The taste is quite similar, with roasted sweetness along with hints of chocolate and coffee that is followed by the aforementioned hop flavors. A very well balanced flavor profile overall here. Has a slightly crisp, just slightly chewy and prickly, also smooth, medium bodied mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. Has a somewhat dry finish and aftertaste, along with the aforementioned sweet flavors that really like to hang around my palate long after each sip. Quite an enjoyable beer here.
