Poured from a tallboy can into a Dogfish Head tulip

L: Dark golden pour with 2 fingers of fluffy white head. Nice ring of sticky lacing... sediment at the end of the pour.

S: Pecan and sweets. Maple syrup and pancakes.

T.F: Sweet up front... very strong maple syrup. Lighter on the pecan/nuts. Hopping for bitterness/balance but really not a lot of IPA character here outside of a little nondescript fruitiness. Creamy/buttery mouthfeel. A bit boozy and warming.

O: An interesting beer... sweet and tasty, but not really an IIPA. Not one I'd want a steady dose of, but made for a unique change of pace. Not really sure why they did this to an IIPA.

-IIPA with pecan and maple syrup.

A: A tall milky cream topping of two inches stands steadily on the vessel, while a good show of macro bubbles boil underneath at a moderate rate. Rustic, milky dense orange coloring with an interesting lace web design left behind on the vessel. Burnt orange coloring and the head is the strong point of the visual.

S: Pecan pie aroma is strong and defined with plenty of maple syrup sweetness and whip cream scents. Hints of dry chocolate, buttery custard and peanut butter. Sweet nuttiness of good strength with vanilla rounds out. Really hits the mark on intention.

T: Flavor was buttery sweet chocolate and maple syrup. Pecan and vanilla highlights along with sweet toffee. Some candy sugar, caramel, and pie crust maltiness. Soft, dry flowery hoppiness finishes out.

M: Full bodied, thick and sticky of hop resins and syrupy like consistency.

O: The can in inviting, and perhaps leading to some sensory projections. The hopping is more backdrop to a sweet dessert style pecan pie like flavor. Good first impression, props for innovation and execution but a limited drinkability. Very true to intentions, with a forward sweetness of maple syrup.

I'm not sure if IPA is the best beer style for a Pecan Pie flavor. It seems like a stout or porter would be more appropriate for this sort of flavor. It's not a terrible beer, but the hoppiness throws me off. You do taste a hint of pecan, but I get more of the sweetness from the maple more than anything else.

Aroma brings toasted sugared pecans and a touch of maple syrup.

Flavor has a good dose of maple. Light touch of pecans. Nothing of an IPA impression.

Carries some booziness.....wouldn't call it cloying but I wouldn't recommend for a diabetic person.

Unique enough and I'm kind of sucker for maple beers. While the pecans shine on the aroma, it's all maple on the taste. Totally lacking in IPA qualities. Curious why they used an IPA base for this rather than a brown ale or something. Whatever the case it's enjoyable.

Cloudy orange gold color with a glass 4.5 F head in a Spiegelau glass.

Aroma isn’t as strong as the taste. Mild pecan, maple syrup.

Very smooth MF, sticky.

Great taste. Deep maple syrup and pecans.

I continue to enjoy the beers from this brewery.

Poured a golden orange body with minimal head and lace. The aroma has bits of maple syrup and a nuttiness to it. Thick, heavy, this beer has a nutty caramel and syrupy sweetness that is slightly cloying (and artificial) with a boozy burn on the finish.

L: Poured from a tallboy can to a snifter glass. Had an orange-yellow color and a cloudy consistency. There was a half inch of foamy, somewhat long-lasting head. Excellent lacing.

S: A very nice aroma of nuts, maple syrup, hops, citrus fruit, malt, and tropical fruit.

T: Tasted of a little bit of malt (not a big presence), a decent amount of citrus fruit (orange), a lot of maple syrup (a big component), some of the advertised pecans, a moderate amount of hops, and some tropical fruit (mango, pineapple). An interesting, sweet and subtle flavor. It's an odd combination of DIPA and you know, pecan pie, but it works. Tasty.

F: A good amount of carbonation with a smooth finish. Medium-bodied.

O: A strangely likable DIPA. Worth a try.

Of course when the craving for pecan pie comes along, so does the yearning for bitterness. What? You mean that doesn't happen? Well, no one told Decadent Ales before they rolled the convincing taste of the fall dessert into a hazy, imperial IPA.

So Pecan Pie, the beer and not the dessert, swoons the nose with the unmistakable scent of butter pecan, tropical fruit and citrus along with the savory crusted and caramel scent that pulls from praline and graham cracker. The early taste picks up right there- with the sweet caramel, butter and toffee flavor that makes the dessert so memorable.

While the ale rolls across the middle palate, its sweetness begins to relax and its nutty pecan flavors come more to life. Likewise, the hops come to life as well with pineapple, grapefruit and orange flavors that sing slightly louder than lemon or mango. Trending oddly bitter, the beer's late palate prefers a more IPA driven taste with the moderately high bitterness of citrus peels, fresh spruce and an all around grassiness.

Medium full in body, the beer's resins insist and malty dry tone while the oddly placed finish of praline and candied nuttiness simply seems to oppose the hop focus late in taste. A long linger of herbal teas accompany the remnants of pecan pie in a taste that simply diametrically oppose each other.

16 ounce can into tulip glass; no can dating, but is a recent release. Pours very hazy/cloudy deep golden/orange/amber color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky off white head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Thick soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big mandarin orange juice, red grapefruit, lemon, peach, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, berries, roasted pecans, citrus peel/zest, light peppercorn/pine, maple syrup, wheat, biscuit dough, light caramel/toast, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/tropical hops, pecans, maple syrup, and bready malt notes; with great strength. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering bitterness. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/bready, and lightly sticky mouthfeel that is fantastic. Slight lingering resins. Minimal warming alcohol for 8.6%. Overall this is an outstanding flavored NEIPA. All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical hops, pecans, maple syrup, and bready malt flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to drink for the big ABV, with the mildly bitter/drying finish, awesome soft feel. Very juicy/lightly dank Citra/Mosaic hops with pecan/maple syrup flavors; and a perfectly balanced wheat/oat/malt backbone. Not overly sweet/heavy from lingering dryness. A highly enjoyable offering, and spot on base style example as expected. Very unique one, but still works really well. Not overwhelming on any aspect.

Pouring from a 16 oz. can into a snulip glass, this beer pours out golden. It forms in the glass hazy and a burnt orange. A lot of sediment floating throughout the glass and a perfect, creamy, one finger width, eggshell colored crown. Would be rated higher if not for the floaties.

The smell brings a maple sweetness dancing with notes of caramel. It also has a presence that resembles pecans, but very slight. I love the smell, but it would be rated higher if it brought more pronunciation.

And from the first sip, I know they nailed it! Wow. I always love what flavors Decadent can achieve. It starts off very maple forward before slowly melding into an actual pecan pie resemblance. Completely. Notes of vanilla in there too. It actually finishes with very slight hints of fruity hops to remind you it’s an ipa.

It has a smooth creaminess while showing a slight hop sharpness. Well carbonated.

Overall, it’s a treat, but I wouldn’t think it’s for everybody. I’m a pecan pie lover, beer lover, and big fan of Decadent IPAs.

Golden in color like resin. Nose is like the sweet nectar that comes with in a pecan pie. The first taste initially doesn't taste like pecan pie, but then it builds on the palate. Great beer.

Pours a hazy light orange with a thick white head that lasts and leaves nice lacing. Lots of small floating particles. Aroma is pecan and caramel. Flavor is sweet caramel with a touch of pecan. Does remind me of pecan pie. No real bitterness or hop present. Feel is medium bodied. Overall a very different beer. Not sure I would consider this an IIPA.

16 ounce can - $5.79 at Sprayberry Bottle Shop in Marietta, Georgia.

Appearance: Pours a hazy (hazed up with fine particulates), orange-gold body with a very, very slim, off-white head.

Smell: Jumbled aroma, citrusy sugars, low-grade maple syrup, moistened barley and a bit of booze. It doesn't really jump out at you, and what does jump out at you isn't all that great. Nor is it reminiscent of pecan pie, or beer for that matter.

Taste: Moderately sweet, some toasty barley, some toasty sugars (caramel), some toasty nuttiness with a dessert cookie accent about it and toothsome touch of maple glaze. How much does it equate to a pecan pie? Not too terribly much, but, c'mon, that gloop, that crap in the center of a pecan pie can be a real mess. I guess there're some hops very obscured in the background, a little resiny, a little citrusy, but that's about it. It doesn't really strike me as a Double IPA, just something to go into that big, vague, city dump-like "strong ale" category.

Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Lightly carbonated.

Overall: First, eyeroll-inducing pastry stouts and now wackadoo IPAs. It's a shame when endless bumbleheaded adjuncts overtake thoughtfully crafted, well-executed ales and lagers.

A: The beer is very hazy dark yellow in color. It poured with a quarter finger high white head that quickly settled down, leaving a thin layer of bubbles covering the surface and a wide collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light aromas of pecans and maple syrup are present in the nose; these got a little stronger as the beer started to warm up.
T: The taste follows the smell, but has stronger flavors of pecans and maple syrup and is somewhat sweet.
M: It feels medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: I liked the sweet and nutty flavors of this beer but the maple seemed a little odd to me as I've always had pecan pie that is made with brown sugar, but apparently using maple syrup is an option based on some recipes that I saw on the web. In any aspect, I thought this had a nice balance between the pecans and maple syrup and masked any traces of alcohol. It could make for a good sweet dessert beer if you are looking for an option other than a stout.

i bought this being totally clueless that it wasnt another dark beer with maple and nuts added. when i pulled it out of the fridge and saw it was an ipa type i was flabbergasted. having not liked any of their beer much so far, i wasnt sure how gimmicky this would be, but it really is pretty tasty, not anywhere near as sweet as i thought it would be, not too much at all, and while it definitely tastes candied and forced, it still tastes good. its confusing how flavored it is, like it cant be natural at all, no amount of maple and real nuts would do this. intense as can be, but somehow the hops work in this one, willy wonka as it is. dry hopped modern hazy ale meets desserty pecans and maple, as flavorful as it is aromatic, too much yes, but i like it! bubbles save it from getting heavy as it warms, and overall its something quite distinctive. they have a formula here no doubt, flavor the heck out of everything, dessert beers to the max, but this actually is tasty and cool, certainly distinctive, im not interested in being too critical. one is enough, but its fun...

So this was poured into a tulip.
The appearance was a fairly nice looking copper to murky orange color with a quickly dissipating small foamy white head. Some messy lace.
The aroma was sweet and roasty pecans, burnt caramel sugars/marshmallow/vanilla.
The flavor totally leans all of the way sweet but allows a subtle toasty nutty pecan character. Mild aftertaste of sweet pecan with subtle roast and caramel sugars.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied with a fair sipping quality about it. Carbonation felt good. Big sticky caramel malty character flowing into the finish, not cloying but almost.
Overall, the idea behind this would most likely be executed extremely better if it was in a stout. The fact that Decadent tried to do this as an IPA shows me that they are going "beyond" stretching the "bar."

These guys know their way around a flavorful dessert beer or two, that's for sure. How will they pull off a pecan pie double IPA, though? Who knows? That's part of the fun, however. Brewed with pecans and maple syrup and clocking in at 8.6% ABV, this seems like it'll be a doozy. I'm up for the challenge though!

Pours a pretty nice solid orange color with a creamy density to it. Topped off with a dollop of quickly-dissipating white head that sinks to about a half-finger and paints my glass with slight legs and mild lace show, Pecan Pie is a modest looking beer at its absolute best. It's not totally opaque, and the color is quite nice, but it just isn't particularly beautiful, and the lack of great lace goes a long way toward proving that, especially when I've had a couple other Decadent beers with more consistent pours. Most of them do generally look just like this, though. Ah well.

The nose straight out of the can was kind of sugary and nondescript, but letting it warm for a bit reveals its true form: insanely heavy maple syrup and nutty malts combined with caramel and light suggestions of pine-y, grassy hops. I'm kind of torn here, to be honest. Typical "dessert IPAs" from Decadent have a lot of the adjuncts at the forefront, but there's usually a lot more hoppiness present. This doesn't feel that way whatsoever. In fact, I'd say this almost has an "American Strong Ale" characteristic to just how nutty and sweet the nose is straight away. There's a little bit of a flash of ethanol here, too. I guess this is successful at what the can says, but it's not as convincing to me personally as, say, Winter Spiced French Toast or Double Toasted Marshmallow for whatever reason. Still good, and rather amazing in its own weird way, but it doesn't have an "IPA" hoppiness to it, so I have to take off some points.

Very cloyingly sweet on the tongue as well, which is a shame. This is quite hard to drink, and it's definitely a sipper. The hops just do nothing to balance how strong the nutty malt/maple syrup combination is, and it's rather messy as a result. Strong ethanol doesn't help the situation. I was expecting this to somehow work better than it does, because I have tended to be surprised by how cohesive the Decadent dessert IPAs are, as I mentioned, but this one is a near-miss. I think it should be marketed as an American Strong Ale, honestly. It just doesn't have the balance to bring it into IPA territory. I suppose there is some light orange smoothie/milkshake flavors here, but that doesn't justify calling it a DIPA. This recipe should probably be taken back to the drawing board... it's just too sticky-sweet and, though convincing as a "pecan pie" beer, it's quite a bit more than enough for me.

Poured into a Tree House glass a pretty nice cloudy pale yellow/orangy color, pretty nice carbonation, with a pretty nice thick/creamy one-finger off-white head, which also leaves some pretty nice sticky lacing behind. The nose is hoppy, malty, with a pretty nice citrus complex (orange, tangerine, mango), nice little pecan, maple syrup. The taste is pretty nice hoppy, malty, with a pretty nice citrus complex (orange, tangerine, mango), nice touch of pecan/maple syrup. Medium body, ABV hidden very nicely, with a nice little dry/bitter finish. Overall, this is a pretty tasty brew. Orange Julius! Addictive! MilkShake! Nice to see it around here.
