Lunar Blast Coconut Porter

even though the base porter here is really light and sort of inconsequential, this beer is a huge success to me because the coconut element is so well done. it has a sweet toasted element to it, and is well dosed and strong in the smell and taste without being forced at all, weird or lotion-like, which immediately puts it at the head of its class. the base beer seems a little light and thin to me, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with it, just a little plain as they go. lots of the milk chocolate middle malt spectrum, less of the more deep and earthy cocoa, but there is some of that here too. the coconut is fancy tasting, toasted and flakey like it belongs on the outside of some quality truffle. drinkable though too, this is easy beer and its not as layered as i am making it sound. at the same time i can marvel at its coconut prominence and authenticity, i can also slam on it. the beer here is ahead of the new brewery curve, and while i know this one comes and goes from the tap list, i think it was my favorite while we were in. nice use of the coconut, sessionable flavored beer. quite good.
