Sampling a cellar temp 2021 bottle courtesy of a trade with @Manta200, thank you for the hookup!!
Im pouring into my trusty snifter for this tasting. Bottled date of 7-21-2021
The beer pours a dark black coffee color with a large fluffy beige colored head of 3 cm that goes over the top of my glass, but doesnt spill as it clings as a large cap. This foam fades slowly as I sample the beer.
Aroma is some roasted malt and some bourbon, but I also get tobacco and anise with hints of char. No hop character and no boozy fusol notes either.
First sip reveals a light to medium body with gentle, fine carbonation. This beer drinks much lighter than the 12.5% would lead me to expect.
Flavor is some roasted notes and a bit of char again. Here the bourbon comes through more and a bit of dark bakers chocolate as well. I dont really get the anise that I got on the nose and the ABV is still very well hidden. I also dont get any hop character.
THis beer drinks very easy for 12.5%. I like the mix of malt and bourbon notes and the only thing I would improve would be a bit of a thicker body, but other wise I enjoy this bourbon barrel aged stout from KY!
