Didnt expect to be the one to add a beer from a small brewery in CA, but here we are!
Vintage 2018 bottle as part of a trade with @Mikeoxlong, thanks man! Bottle is 22 oz and is at cellar temp and poured into a snifter.
After a fairly aggressive pour the pitch black brew exhibits a 4 cm dense tan head that slowly slips down the edges of my glass and leaves some large craters in the center of the foam. Bubbles are very dense and even after several minutes I still have a very solid coating on the surface of my beer and some clouds of bubbles sticking to the sides of my glass.
The aroma is malty through and through with roasted malt notes, bakers chocolate, some coffee grounds and a little bit of charred wood. No hops and surprisingly the ABV is pretty well hidden too. Do wish the nose was a little more robust, but what it has, is good.
First sip reveals a fairly thick and chewy body with very fine, yet still tingly carbonation. very nice, and appropriate characteristics for a big imperial stout.
Flavor is what I expect from the nose. Lots of roasted malt and black coffee notes, again a bit of charred wood and no real sweetness here. Some very dark high % cacao chocolate comes in and adds some bitterness and dryness on the finish. Again hops not making a showing. ABV is also well hidden making this a bit of a dangerous beer considering format and ABV! Glad to have tried this one!

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
