Name: Redwood Highway
Brewery: SeaQuake Brewing
Location: Crescent City, CA
Style: Hazy IPA
ABV: 7.2%
Canned: 13 January 2026
Date: 02 April 2026
Initial Impression:
Another bottle brought back by a friend—my experience with SeaQuake’s West Coast IPA set a strong precedent, so I was eager to see how their hazy expression compares.
Appearance:
Served at 50°F in a tulip. Pours golden-yellow with light amber highlights, distinctly hazy (note: SRM closer to ~6–8 for the color range). A dense, rocky white head shows strong retention and leaves pronounced lacing. Visually, an excellent example of the style.
Aroma:
High hop intensity with a fruit-forward profile. Notes of mango, pineapple, tangerine, peach, and passion fruit lead, supported by pear and light red apple. Citrus elements (lemon rind) and soft floral tones (honeysuckle) add lift, while a touch of pine and grass provides contrast. The malt presents as lightly bready and biscuity with subtle sweetness. A faint yeast-derived phenolic and light earthiness are present but restrained.
Flavor:
Hop-driven with good complexity and integration. Tropical and citrus fruits dominate—mango, pineapple, tangerine, and passion fruit—layered with peach and subtle orchard fruit. Bitterness is moderate, with a slight resinous edge. The malt backbone offers bready, lightly toasted support with a touch of sweetness. Light phenolic spice and a hint of earthiness carry through, adding depth without distracting.
Mouthfeel:
Medium body with medium to medium carbonation. Astringency is present, lending a drying edge to the finish. Overall, it remains smooth and softer, leaning toward a pillowy texture, which better aligns with classic hazy IPA expectations.
Overall Impression:
A vibrant, hop-forward hazy IPA with expressive aromatics and strong flavor carry-through. It leans slightly more structured, soft, and juicy, and highly enjoyable. SeaQuake continues to impress—this is a flavorful, quaffable IPA that balances intensity with drinkability, and one I’m glad my friend brought back.
