A dry stout with a creamy oatmeal head. The roasted barley offers notes of coffee , while the American oak provides aromas of vanilla and wood.

number 710 in their oddly classified lineage of beers. a fun bottle of stout, shared generously by a good friend, not sure how he scored this one, but it was a cool one to drink on, tons of flavor for a beer so low in abv, and my first beer from these guys. deep brown in color, a little copper red on the edges of the glass, fast fading tan head, some obvious density, but somewhat still looking after the initial pour. aroma is light oxidation, mid level roastiness, hints of unbrewed coffee beans, light vanilla from the oak, a warm and hearty character, not boozy but warming still, unique. the flavor matches, a little oxidized, this doesnt seem fully fresh to me, but the flavor is there, a nice toasted oak element with vanilla and even a cinnamon note followed by the chocolate malt and the roast, which never quite gets all the way bitter and dark, long finishing, faint sweetness but extended more by wood than by sugar. i like how interesting this is and how much character it has for being as low alcohol as it is, i would have placed it at 8% abv or so when i was drinking it without knowing. id like to try some more from faculty, these all look pretty interesting...
