Got this one at the Duvel guy in Utrecht
From a bottle into a snifter
EBC: 110
IBU: 55
Imperial coffee oatmeal stout aged on Barton bourbon barrels
APPEARANCE: Black pour yields a three finger, medium-thicker looking, creamy tan head with good retention. Head slowly crackles down to a foamy wisp. Opaque black body with a bit of carbonation evident. Looks a little flat but some falling dots are left behind.
SMELL: Bourbon aromas, oak, vanilla cream notes and some coffee as well. Touches of milk chocolate. Coffee comes across as a little green perhaps.
TASTE: Bourbon, oak, woody flavors and milk chocolate up front, with a bit of booze at the swallow. Bolder and boozier finish of bourbon and wood, vanilla cream, somewhat stale, bitter coffee and milk chocolate linger on the palate. Enough alcohol here.
PALATE: Medium body and medium carbonation. Creamy enough on the palate, goes down fine with a bit of a burn and finishes somewhat mouth-coating. Some heat lingers.
OVERALL: A half decent one, but a little booze heavy and the coffee is a touch stale and mute. Some good things going on here, and I rather enjoyed it, but not quite on par with the better examples of the style and not something I’d have to drink again.
