Got this from Doops. Thanks, man!
From a 33cl can into a snifter
IBU: 35
Comp Ass Series
Quadruple with brandy and raisins
APPEARANCE: Pours a 1+ finger, medium looking, slightly foamy, crackly off-white head with okay retention. Burgundy red in color with no real carbonation evident. Head slowly fades to a splotchy wisp and ring. Touches of wisp remain leaving some decent lacing on the glass as it empties. Nice looking.
SMELL: Lots of sweet, sugary malts, like caramel, toffee, dark fruit like dates and prunes, some brown sugar, brandy aromas and decent alcohol as well. Bold.
TASTE: Some caramel and dark fruit sweetness up front, but rather watery, unfortunately. Some brandy and alcohol at the swallow, with a medium but lingering finish of caramel, dark fruits, dates, raisins, some brandy flavors, as well as some spicy alcohol linger on the palate.
PALATE: Medium body and medium carbonation. Light on the palate, creamy and fluffy, goes down fine with a bit of a burn and finishes somewhat mouth-coating on the palate. A touch of heat lingers.
OVERALL: This started out really nicely. The nose is bold and enticing on this one, but unfortunately the flavor doesn’t come across as aggressive as it should. Nothing wrong with it at all, but doesn’t quite live up to the high hopes I had just prior to the first sip. I had expected something more aggressive on the palate. Good stuff, but just fell a little flat on game day. Thanks again, Doopie!
