Poured from 330mL can into a tall kitchen glass. Best by 1/30/24; the label calls this an "unfiltered brown beer".
Appearance: light brown/copper hue with a thin finger of tan foam atop. Not bad, but not especially dark for a brown ale.
Smell: a bit sweet with an almost fruity character. There's a little bit of nice toffee underneath, but the fruity character just seems weird for the style.
Taste: there's more typical "brown ale" character in the flavor than in the aroma, with a nutty, caramelly malt flavor that is nice; however, that fruity element is still there, and it doesn't quite work for me. There's a nice bitterness to it, though.
Mouthfeel: medium body with a decent carbonation and creaminess.
Overall: I don't know if the atypical flavor is due to a design choice or a production issue, but while there are good brown ale elements here, the fruitiness is just ... out of place, to me.
