Our brewery crew begins with a traditional Porter, chocolate malt and roasted barley. They then spice things up by adding a pound per barrel of New Mexico red chili for a bright and warming mouthful.

a very well made base porter, they probably could have just stuck with that, but its all jacked up with red hot chili peppers, and the dosing is extreme unless you really like your beer to burn. there is some serious heat on this thing, over the top for my palate, but its kind of clever because of how late it comes on. unlike other hot pepper beers that blow away the base beer right away, this one is a slow burn. you get dark chocolate and bitter barley happening for awhile before the pepper starts to ramp up. it gets real hot after the swallow, and although it doesnt add a ton of flavor on the tongue, it adds one heck of a burn on the throat. one nice thing about it, is that as intense as it is, it doesnt linger too long and ruin the next sip, let alone the next beer like some of these do. a pint would have been way too much for me to drink alone, and i still dont really like it, but thats personal and has nothing to do with the beer. if this is your thing, this is a great example of it, but its just too hot for me to enjoy much of it. almost makes me cough, the burn is down deep.

1 pint 6 fl oz brown glass bottle with standard pressure cap served into an Odell 90 Shilling pilsner glass in me friend's gaff in high altitude Fort Collins, Colorado. Reviewed. Expectations are below average.
Served straight from the fridge. Side-poured with standard vigor as no carbonation issues are anticipated.
Not paired with food.
A: Pours a two finger khaki colour head of nice thickness, slight cream, and good retention. Body colour is a very dark brown-black. No yeast particles are visible. No bubble show. Typical for a porter.
Sm: Dark malts, a metallic note, hints of very light restrained chili, and caramel. An average strength aroma.
T: Light restrained chili and dark malts, with some caramel. A bit of spicy resurgence on the finish. The chili is quite weak; why brew a chili beer if you're hardly going to use the chilis at all? Imbalanced and bland. Quite boring. The second act is rather empty; it's just the malty base. Lacks flavour.
Mf: Smooth and wet. Overcarbonated. Too thick for a chili beer - or even for a porter, given its lack of flavour. It just doesn't have hardly any depth.
Dr: Drinkable but boring and bland. I wouldn't get this again. A pretty tame chili beer; it seems more like they're cashing in on the cachet appeal of a chili beer than sincerely brewing one. A poor show from Eddyline.
