I picked up a bomber of this unfiltered New England-style IPA from Hi Times in Newport Beach, CA on 03/10/2017. Bottled on 11/10/2016. ABV is 6.6%. The bottle label is purple, green and white -- it's one of the most distinctive and well-done labels of all the countless beers that I've drunk. Brilliant in its colors and simplicity. Arsenal Urban Ales of Pasadena, CA created a label that one instantly recognizes across the room. It's how I found this IPA.
But is this beer as good as its label?
U'll Thank Me L8r :{ initially pours a hazy amber with moderate carbonation. 2 fingers of white foam that dissipates quickly. Good lacing. The smell fills your nose with tropical fruits, stone fruits and hops -- great aroma! The taste starts with a strong note of bitter hops, followed by tropical fruits, stone fruits and a hint of citrus, all complimented by a mild malt backbone. The alcohol isn't discernible.
I love big, in-your-face West Coast DIPAs. This New England-style IPA is my first venture into East Coast IPAs. If this West Coast mimic is what I can expect from real East Coast IPAs, then I'm already hooked. Was there a clever person at Arsenal Urban Ales who somehow read my mind long before I ever tried this beer -- or was it just prophetic -- U'll Thank Me L8r? Perhaps...
I'll add this IPA to my weekly rotation of daily DIPAs whenever I find it. It won't be hard to miss from across the room.
