On tap:
Lovely mocha brown head that can’t provide lacing with its final ring. Nose of chocolate, bourbon barrel aspects including vanilla, marshmallow, and a bit of sweet tobacco with the barrel tang.

The taste and feel are a little lighter than expected from the nose. The feel has a little sticky sweetness, but isn’t too thick. The flavors have a little more barrel tang that sort of dampens the chocolate malt and vanilla notes. It doesn’t kill them though, which is good.

Pretty decent, but not a top notch BBA stout.

Black pour at 58 degrees; fast fizzy brown/tan head that disappeared immediately; no ring no lace; some spots on swirl with medium heavy legs. Nose is bourbon, oak, dark stone fruit, and cocoa; bourbon on exhale. Taste follows nose, with lite roast chocolate malt, toffee, black cherries and sweet plums. Medium plus full body body; smooth silky feel; warmth from 11%. Overall, well balanced with just enough boozy barrel notes to tease, with mild sweet fruit and chocolate finish; a great barrel aged stout.

Sampling a cellar temp 16.9 oz bottle poured into a snifter. I picked up this bottle at the brewery on a visit to Charleston in April 2019.
The beer pours a very dark and viscous brew with absolutely minimal beige lacing that remains only at the thinnest of edge layers.
The aroma is rich an malty with dark chocolate, rich sweet vanilla, brown sugar and a dose of bourbon mixing together. I dont get any hop presence at all and the booze is pretty well hidden for this larger beer. This is an appealing nose for a malt lover and I am getting more excited for this bottle.
The first sip reveals a velvety smooth texture, very fine and gentle carbonation matched up with a fairly thick body. Physical traits make this a bit of a sipper and reminds me of the bigger booze on this brew.
Flavor is very rich and malty, there is a ton of sweet chocolate, but definitely not cloying. There is also some brown sugar and a dose of vanilla and bourbon. The mix of vanilla and sweet chocolate is actually quite amazing and this proves to be a very enjoyable experience on my palate. I dont get any hop presence that I can note. The booze shows up in a slightly warming fashion in my belly after each swallow. This is something to drink slowly and enjoy, I am super glad to have another bottle in my cellar!
