Served on-draught @ Beachwood BBQ in Long Beach. Reviewed from notes.
APPEARANCE: No real head per se, but there's a white floating ring of froth that has no real creaminess or thickness and only fair retention.
Body colour is a cloudy yellow.
AROMA: Peach. Clean bright fresh fruit, fruityale yeast esters, wild yeast, a hint of bacteria. Very fresh and inviting, albeit mild in terms of intensity. Terrific.
TASTE: Peach, heavy sourness (~8/10 in terms of intensity), wild yeast(s), bacteria, no real funkiness. Pale malts and 2-row are at the heart of this beer. A slight hint of wood comes through.
Very nicely balanced and built. Not puckering, but it's a lovely sour in spite of its relatively simplistic build. Very enjoyable, but those craving incredible depth of flavour and amazing subtlety would do well to look elsewhere.
TEXTURE: Smooth and wet. Clean. Thickness is perfect for a sour. Light on the palate. Refreshing and approachable.
OVERALL: A lovely sour I'd like to revisit in finer grain for a full review. I'd definitely get this gain, and it might be nice aged. Absolutely a must-try if you come across it.
Would pair well with pico de gallo or ceviche.
B+ (3.88) / VERY GOOD
