Appearance: Very dark, opaque; abundant head, moderately persistent, beige in color.
Aroma: Nuts dominate on the forefront — a very strong peanut butter-like aroma, along with a subtler note of roasted nuts. A weaker but still noticeable chocolate aroma is also present.
Flavor: Overall impression is sweet-bitter. Aromatically similar to the nose, though coffee is more noticeable on the palate.
Mouthfeel: Balance leans slightly toward sweetness; medium to medium-high body; medium to medium-low bitterness. Slight alcoholic warming. Moderate carbonation.
Overall: A good beer that generally meets the style criteria. Distinctive and fairly complex in aroma. I did not detect the vanilla mentioned on the label, though that may be due to my own limitations. One could argue that the nutty aroma is very strong and masks other notes, but that’s a matter of taste. Recommended.
