TeKu Tavern

 

Teku Tavern is a mellow place to have an excellent beer. There are a lot of tables, small and large, as well as a long bar. The vibe is Scandinavian modern but not austere. There's background music, but it's not so loud that you can't talk easily.

There are a lot of taps ... I didn't count, but I'd guess it's around 50. The board is organized by taste (malt, hoppy, fruit, tart & funky, etc) which should be educational for some. The bartender was efficient and helpful. The glassware is Teku, surprise, surprise.

The pricing is a little high, but probably to be expected in the tech neighborhood of South Lake Union. Don't come here if you like 4 ounce tasters. Their 4 ounce prices are prohibitive ... as much as $9 or $10 for a four ounce pour of B-Bomb or Abraxas. That's higher than I've seen anywhere. Prices for regular pours are high but not out line with similar spots

Overall, it's worth knowing about if you are near the Space Needle or South Lake Union, but there are better places in Seattle in the neighborhoods.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Stopped by for a couple drinks after visiting the MPOP museum and Chihuly Glass gallery. So it's only a few blocks from the touristy stuff, but in a residential/commercial area. Modern styled non-nonsense decor. Long bar and indoor and outdoor tables, but you need to order at the two cash registers. Then they also have a huge cooler of takeout beer. Impressive selection, prices are a bit high. No food available.

I feel like this place could use some breaking in and a bit more charm, but it is otherwise one of the great newcomers to the Seattle beer scene. A consistently excellent tap list, coupled with an outstanding, well-organized, and refrigerated bottle/can selection, and all backed by friendly and knowledgeable service. I hope they do well.

Nice current selection both at the bar and in bottles and cans for sale. Website is very misleading since it lists available hundreds of beers that are not currently available. Apparently this has been an issue for a while that has not been fixed. Staff is very enthusiastic and helpful.

 

 

I recently visited TeKu for the first time and I can definitely say I'll be going back. They have about 50 taps, a massive bottle selection, good service and as a bonus they're less than a mile from my office. The breadth and quality of the tap list is great, and service was good despite a hopping Friday night. Additionally, the pours are quite generous -- no cheater pints here! Absolutely worth a visit.
