16 FL OZ can
Served in a HOMES wine glass
This beer pours a deep shade of purple. It looks almost like beet juice. It is topped with an inch of pink head that leaves no lacing.
The smell is intense with blackberry. The lactose sweetens the smell a little. There is a definite tartness to the aroma.
There is a huge tart blackberry flavor. The lactose tries to cut the tartness and almost succeeds through the middle, but the tartness reasserts itself and carries into the finish.
Medium bodied with a deceptively creamy mouthfeel
HOMES never ceases to amaze me. I started out loving their NEIPAs. Now I love their fruited sours. They are well worth the 2.5 hour drive to pick up beer for me. Plus I love Ann Arbor. The greatest university in the world is located there. And no, I do not mean Concordia.

Drank from a 16 fl oz can purchased at J. Wakefield Brewing, Miami, FL
Canned on 1/22/20
Served in a Rastal Harmony stemless beer glass
The nearly opaque, blackberry hued body was capped by a half-finger tall, light pink crown that quickly dissolved. No lacing nor any retention whatsoever.
The aroma was outstanding. Blackberry dominated. Freshly puréed blackberries came to mind. Really bright and pure. Big vanilla presence too. Nice amount of creamy lactose and sweet milk sugar notes as well. Hint of tartness.
The flavor was solid but quite different from the aroma. Tart berry notes came through strong. Underripe blackberries perhaps. The IPA characteristics were definitely more apparent here. Moderately hoppy. Tart and fairly acidic in the center. Lemon notes were detectable. Bit of vanilla and milk sugar too. More citrusy hops, berry-like tartness and acidity on the back end and the finish.
Interesting mouthfeel. Light, frothy and fluffy. A touch prickly perhaps. The liquid contained a larger bubbled, fairly aggressive effervescence.
Metaform Blackberry is a refreshing and highly crushable blackberry-infused sour IPA that made for a perfect beach beer on our recent trip to Miami. Thanks to J. Wakefield for doing a taproom can release of some of the breweries who participated in this year’s Wakefest.
