A variant of Coolship Kriek, our spontaneously fermented series of golden sours, brewed in the fall of 2018, aged on Stevnsbær cherry from Frederiksdal Winery in Denmark. This portion of the batch was transferred into Mammoth Distillery cherry liqueur barrels to age for an additional 13 months before bottle conditioning with champagne yeast.

Pours a beautiful ruby red with a finger or less of pink foam. Foam dissipates quickly, letting the blood burgundy liquid leave trails of oil across the glass as the heavy liquid is swirled. Aroma is potent cherry, which keeps more of a fleshy, tart flavor profile (as opposed to sugary cherry.) A little funk, stone, oak, and grassy hops combine mild acidity for a delicate, yet forward, aroma. Oak & barrel really starts to come more forward as the beer warms. Flavor profile provides similar cherry notes - fleshy, fruity, dark, and mildly tart - alongside oak, stone, grassy hops, and earthy malts. There is a very mild acidity to it that remains consistent from start to finish, providing a little friction or texture to the flavor profile without taking away the drinkability. Mouth feel is medium-thick with a rather neutral texture. There is a fine level of velvetiness to each sip's texture, but it's not a key feature of the experience. Overall, a wonderfully prepared coolship kriek. Wonderfully drinkable. Nice complexity, without coming at the cost of the gulp-ability of this beer.

Served in a 15.5oz Speigelau tulip from a 750mL bottle. Bottled 07/07/2021. Consumed/reviewed 02/26/2023.
