This Jolly fella is from BC, but tells a story of crystal malt and mischief had with a hoppy young German girl called Hallertau Blanc. It ain’t hard to love the malty, world travelling, lemon grass and tropical flavours in this jovial Jolly Beggar. Come dance with us, come sing along, splash beer upon the table. The Jolly Beggar wants you to revel in the raptures.

473ml can - more Robert Burns fanboyism, it would appear.

This beer pours a clear, bright pale golden yellow colour, with three fingers of puffy, rocky, and somewhat fizzy off-white head, which leaves some random spattered and sudsy lace around the glass as it lazily recedes.

It smells of grainy and bready cereal malt, estery lemongrass, mild domestic citrus rind, and some plain earthy, weedy, and rather floral green hop bitters. The taste is gritty and grainy pale malt, lemon, orange, and lime citrus peel, a minor minerality, and more testy leafy, herbal, and floral verdant hoppiness.

The carbonation is quite active in its swirling and twirling frothiness, the body a decent medium weight, and generally smooth, with just a bit of floral acridity mucking about here. It finishes trending dry, the malt bottoming out, and the noble hop character showing some atypical lingering prowess.

Overall - this is an interesting enough attempt at differentiating a simple pale ale from the herd, by utilizing a lesser known hop. Hallertau Blanc does indeed lend lemongrass and spiffy floral essences aplenty, and they somehow just work in this brew. Not a fan of the less than average ABV, but otherwise, this one is all right.

Twa Dogs 'Jolly Beggar's Pale Ale' @ 4.7% , served from a 32oz squealer purchased for $8.25
A-pour is gold from the squealer to a light gold in the glass with a large white head leaving a spotty lace along the pint
S-floral , lemon grass
T-somewhat crisp & clean local pale ale
MF-ok carbonation , medium body
Ov-kinda dissapointing start , I expect more from Dean McLeod beers
