Holy Willie begins life in two lands, with BC and British specialty barley, with malted & flaked oats; but He feels the fires below more than others and his passion quickly turns to the Dark Side. Holy Willie must first destroy the young malts, but he is brewed to bring balance to the craft. His IBU bitterness is hidden behind chocolate roasted malts, the swirling maelstrom of his character is bold yet creamy, acrid yet malty. This stout ale, this Robust Porter tells you “Look, I am your Father”.

473ml can - cool story, bro. It's been updated since the rebranding under the Twa Dogs name, but suffice it say, the new one includes a reference to Robert Burns.
This beer pours a clear (I think), dark orange-brick brown colour, with one measly finger of wanly puffy, loosely foamy, and bubbly beige head, which leaves some random streaky lace around the glass as it quickly wafts off.
It smells of bready and doughy caramel malt, bittersweet cocoa powder, some berry-forward orchard fruitiness, a hint of free-range ash, cafe-au-lait, and very faint earthy, musty, and dead floral hops. The taste is gritty and grainy caramel malt, wet char, medium chocolate wafers, day-old coffee grounds, overripe strawberries, and more well-understated leafy, herbal, and musky floral green hoppiness.
The carbonation is fairly subdued in its palate-dulling frothiness, the body a so-so middleweight, and generally smooth, with a small airy creaminess trying to achieve lift-off as things warm up a bit around here. It finishes off-dry, the frooty malt the order of the lingering day.
Overall - this comes across as more of a gateway-friendly version of the style, pulling a few too many punches so as to not offend anyone. That said, it does have flavour, but it's kinda plain, and not something I would return to in its current form.

Twa Dogs 'Holy Willie's Robust Porter' @ 6.5% , served on tap at GCBF'16 & a 6pack of 355 ml bottle's purchased for $14
A-pour is a cola brown from the tap/bottle to a near black in the glass with a small tan head leaving a spotty lace along the sampler/pint
S-roasted malt
T-crisp & clean tasting local porter , no wow factor
MF-ok carbonation , big medium body
Ov-just an ok/good beer , yeah need to step it up Caledonian
