Moonless Night, an intuitive Cascadian Dark Ale...Moonless Night was brewed with midnight wheat and rye, and cold steeped for several days on Ethiopian Wazzala coffee beans from Ceremony Coffee Roasters in Annapolis, MD. This imparted a tremendous character of earth, citrus, and soft acidity to the beer. It was then dry hopped at 150% usual rate with Ekuanot (formerly known as Equinox), and Amarillo hops.
It pours opaque dark-brown, so call it what you will - Black IPA, Cascadian Dark Ale, India Black Ale - it doesn't matter: the rounded, layered flavors and aromas of floral, candied Papaya, citrus rind oils, and deep, resinous American hops do not judge!

Black IPA where the primary "dark" is coffee. Pours black with a thick beige head. Aroma is dominated be coffee, but not crazy. Taste is almost stout with the roasted notes and subdued hops. Feel is good, clean and smooth. Overall, an interesting take on a black IPA.

4/14/17...pours cloudy, like a dirty muddy swamp. No foam. Still. Earthy dark malty pine nose. Earthy dark roasted taste. Heavy bitter residual, and then a minty finish. Very good.

I had this on draught in a pub. It was served in a pint glass. It pours nearly black with one finger of creamy, ecru-colored head and extensive lacing with retention throughout the pour. The smell features roasted malt, freshly brewed coffee, pine needles, and floral hops. It has a nice roasty flavor of malt, rye, coffee, and a hint of chocolate. The finish is slightly hoppy but not bitter. This ale is creamy and medium-bodied with pleasant carbonation, and its 7.2% ABV is enough to give it character without being too heavy. It has only slight acidity. Overall, it is easy to drink and worth the effort. It's another fine black ale being brewed in New Jersey.
