DATE: January 28, 2022... OCCASION: Jer suggested lagers and stouts for last weekend's visits, and this one was solid--time to look closer... GLASSWARE: nondescript pilsner... pours a mostly clear, busy golden body whose bubbles build a third-of-a-finger's worth of frothy smear... fresh noble hops, fresh hay and grass, and reasonable bread malts... secondary notes of perfume and flowers are solidly interspersed.... its mouthfeel straddles the fence separating drinkability and memorability... it offers a slickened finish... lemon grass, soft pine, lilac, perfumed fruitiness, warm bread malts, and a rather clean finish make this an enjoyable, repeatable drink... I dug Brotherton's Earthbound, and this is another offering that hits its style in stride and rewards the drinker...

Nice pilsner, looks good, doesn't have that skunky taste, feels good. Easy to drink.

Brotherton Brewing Co. "Pine Barrens Pilsner"
Look: Slightly hazy golden body beneath a short head of white foam. Average-plus head retention and decent lacing.
Smell: Moderate aroma of Pilsner malt and lightly floral and spicy hops.
Taste: As the aroma suggests, it's the standard grainy & grassy Pilsner malt with floral and spicy hops backed by a stiff, median bitterness that leads to a dry finish.
Feel: Medium bodied with a standard, crisp carbonation.
Overall: The slight haze is a little bit distracting but otherwise it checks all the boxes, and yet it somehow lacks vibrancy and comes off as mediocre. Disappointing coming from Brotherton.

On-tap @ Sol Mexican Cantina in Branchburg, NJ.
Pale gold with a bit of haze to it. Small white head with good retention. Aroma is mild but has pleasant notes of crackery malt and floral hops. Nice balance in the flavor, although it's missing that pop that the hops give a classic German-style Pils. Moderate bitterness on the back end. Medium-light bodied. Not as clean and snappy as I like my Pils' to be, but an enjoyable local offering.
