Phat Mongrel’s older, inappropriate uncle. Bigger-bodied, more bitter, with extra mongrel.
To the eye: Black and viscous like sump oil, the nitro charge gives the appearance of a blown head gasket.
Up your nose: Bangs of dark roasted malt goodness. Coffee, cacao and slightly burnt. Rounded out with the early fruit spice.
In your mouth: Voluptuously full-bodied. Mouth coasting sweetness balanced with 100 IBU’s and a boozy warming sensation.

A gift from colleagues after I left my job back in May 2023. Drunk in October of that year.
L: Jet black like a good RIS should be. No light penetrates, and nor would any dare. The thin rim of head is mocha-coloured. Carbonation is unseen.
S: Rich malt, tangy toffee, cola and strong raspberry cordial. I get no roast and no chocolate, as per the blurb on the can, but that's not a bad thing.
T: In the mouth, that roastiness I couldn't pick up in the nose becomes evident. Harsh, bitter, burnt chocolate joins in and lingers long after the swallow, almost becoming menthol-like in its power and length. The raspberry note sticks around, and warmth - almost harsh warmth - clings to my mouth throughout. This is not for the faint of heart, but if this kind of beer is in your wheelhouse, then it's delicious!
M: The overriding impression in the mouth is menthol warmth; it's like I've just chewed on a strong mint or particularly potent cough lolly. The body is full and thick, carbonation is reserved, and carbonic prickle is minimal.
O: Even ignoring the 10% ABV contained in the can, slow consumption of this beer is not just recommended, it's necessary. The flavour profile is strong; it'll grow hair on your chest and curl the stuff atop your head. But if you persist and learn to love this style, you'll be rewarded with a delicious half-hour in the company of this beer.
Cheers!
