Got this from the cheese shop in Maarssen
From a 33cl can into a snifter
IBU: 55
EBC: 200
APPEARANCE: Pours out clear dark brown, almost black, and yields a 2+ finger, medium looking, creamy, slightly foamy, light brown head with excellent retention. Black body with higher levels of carbonation evident. Head slowly recedes to a full, foamy cap leaving some frothy lacing on the glass. A splotchy wisp remains leaving solid lacing on the glass as it empties. Good stuff.
SMELL: Lightly roasted malts, lots of dark fruits, like raisins and dates, with notes of brown sugar and tobacco aromas on the nose.
TASTE: Lightly roasted, but mostly burnt malts, some tobacco, dark fruits and some alcohol at the swallow. Bolder finish of tobacco, ashy flavors, burnt malts, bitter hops, as well as some decent booze linger on the palate. Plenty of tobacco, ash, and bitter flavors on this one.
PALATE: Medium-fuller body and medium carbonation. Creamy and plenty smooth on the palate, enough weight, goes down smooth and finishes a bit mouth-coating. Some bitterness lingers. Full and creamy.
OVERALL: A little light on the color for the style perhaps, but it’s got a lovely creamy head, full, frothy feel and a solid flavor profile. This is a European stout for sure, which tends to be characterized by more of a ashy tobacco, dark fruit flavor profile, but this one is certainly done well on that front. A very good example of the style and well worth checking out if that’s your thing. I quite enjoyed this one. Cheers!
