On draught at The Rake pub in Borough Market, London. A straightforward, no bells & whistles English bitter. Stone fruit, malt, low carbonation, cellar temperature, caramel coloured with web-like lacing. Easy drinking and, at sub 4%, perfect for buying a round with 4-5 mates.

Blind-tasted...
L- Light to mid chestnut gold, pours clear with 2mm just off-white head.
S- Smells wholly like a trad English ale to me, a surprise considering it's in a contemporary/hipster can.
T- Hoppier than anticipated, it seems close to the English Bitter style, just with slightly more prominent hopping.
F- The hops do make a notable zing on the palate. This would be a refreshing summer beer given it's light ABV%. Carbonation in the mouth is also good,
O- It's 3.9%ABV and it always amazes me how beers of such lower% are simple to ID. If this were say 4.8% or higher I wouldn't be noticing such. Now I read the can, lol it describes itself as a 'Modern English Bitter' - wow, got the right zone for the style. Presumably the rather amped up hopping equates to 'Modern'. Seems expensive to me for what it is, vs the price of more established high-quality Bitters, so not one I'd buy again.

A 330ml can with a BB of Oct 2018. Purchased a little while back from Trembling Madness in York. The label describes it as an English bitter hopped with three new world hop varieties. Named after the malt variety used to brew it and the local otter that lives near the brewery....

A: Poured into a tulip. A deep reddish-caramel hue with faint haze and low carbonation. Produces a large head of creamy white foam that lasts for a moment or so before collapsing to a patchy surface layer.

S: Aroma of rich toasted malt with hints of grain, mild caramel, ale yeast, grass and subtle leafiness. Understated but pleasant.

T: Tastes of toasted malt with notes of grain, subtle caramel, ale yeast, grass/hay, mild leafiness and faint stewed husks. Slightly sweet, followed by a crisp, modest bitterness upon swallowing.

M: Mouthfeel is smooth and lightly tingly, with soft carbonation and good body for the strength. Mildly astringent. Aftertaste of toasted malt, grain, ale yeast and mild hops.

O: Nice - delicate yet moreish. Looks OK; head retention could use work. Aroma and flavour are a lovely blend of grainy malt, ale yeast and subtle leafy hops. Good body. Goes down a treat - the definition of session ale. Perfect for a hot day. Well worth sampling.
