Fairytale of Brew York 2020 has gone nuts! Big peanut flavour, buttery pecan, complex maple and creamy vanilla with just a hint of cinnamon spice combine in our annual Xmas stout.

440ml can. 2020 version: ‘peanut, pecan, maple & vanilla milk stout’.
Black with ruby edging and a thin smear of tan head. Heady aroma of maple syrup and chocolate liqueur. Flavours are cocoa, coffee, maple syrup and Christmas nuts. Bitterness is medium/light. Mouthfeel is smooth, light and softly drying. Tastes like it could be poured over vanilla ice cream. This is a smokey, indulgent, sweet treat with an ABV that will keep you upright.

L- Pours appearing black but actually ultra-dark ruby red, slight haze, 3mm fine-bubble dark tan head.
S- Cocoa, a milky cocoa, seem to dominate for me, plus a hint of vanilla.
T- The smell reads across directly into the taste. Then on subsequent sips I begin to notice a charry/log-fire smokey aspect too. Amongst all of that there is sufficient hopping to keep balance with some hoppy brightness on the palate.
F- Pungent taste but not heavy in feel. I'd say this is on the dry side of neutral. Also to be clear it doesn't have anything rich/sweet going on, whereas many contemporary milk stouts do.
O- Certainly different, but there is just too much going on here for me. Put another way, it lacks subtlety of finesse.
