Port BA Biscotti Imperial Pastry Stout, 12%.
The base beer, ‘John Biscotti, The King of Brew York’, is inspired by the traditional Italian biscuit and is rich with nutty notes of almond, hazelnut and pistachio with a solid roasted coffee backbone. The ageing has added rich oak, vinous dried fruit and molasses that adds a welcome warmth and complexity. Bada-bing!

440ml can.
L: Black with no head and hardly any lacing. These very high ABV beers aren’t the prettiest.
S: Massive hit of Terry’s Chocolate Orange (plain chocolate) plus a trace of alcohol.
T: Marzipan (in the form of almond flavouring) comes through strongly, setting up a duel with the dominant chocolate orange. Not getting any coffee at all. Sickly sweet.
F: Full bodied, becomes syrupy over time.
O: I struggle with some of these pastry stouts. They’re so sweet, so OTT, with every kind of natural and artificial flavour thrown in. In this case, the ingredients include tonka beans, cacao nibs, flavourings and orange extract. Tastes artificial and is much too sweet.
