L- Superficially black to the eye, but a halogen torch behind the glass reveals it as a very dark ruby red. Pours with a 2mm dark tan head, not much but very unusual/impressive for a beer of this high an ABV%.
S- Cocoa, milk, creamy hot chocolate.
T- It's like chilled rich hot chocolate with a shot or two of brandy in it. There is also a sweet note, I don't think lactose alone covers it it's a bit 'candy-floss'? As it warms I also possibly get a facet of liquorice...
F- Rich, verging on sweet. I'm glad I started with this quite well chilled as it's too full-on to rush, and as the temp rises it's pungency/richness is just rising at speed.
O- What to conclude? In some ways it's not like any mainstream beer, it's like a brandy-shotted chilled chocolate milk. How does one rate such a beer - IDK. Interesting to try but for old Trad me it's just a bit far out there and certainly too sweet.
440ml can BB: 22/04/2022. Bought from TremblingMadness as part of a mixed case for home delivery to London. £5.50 - Ouch!
