A fruity and smooth red ale, and our nod to Belgian-style Dubbels. Brewed with a blend of Belgian malts including Pils, Vienna, Crystal and Special B to give a deep-amber colour, balanced with Brewers Gold, Chinook and Mosaic hops to provide a clean bitterness with pine and citrus notes.

Pours a handsome dark red, with a tight ivory head. Very mild nose - some dark malt. On the tongue it's redolent of an English bitter - lots of spiced dark malt and funky molasses. Ends fairly neutral on a chocolate note with a bitter undertone. Quite heavy - good for colder weather.

Poured from a 440ml can. Mine is 5.6%
Pours a deep russet brown with a thick, off white head. No lacing . The smell is hoppy and biscuits malt. The taste is very malty with a prune fruitiness lingering in the back and a smooth bitterness throughout. No sweetness. The mouthfeel is syrupy with a pin prick carbonation.
Overall, a very pleasant beer, full flavoured and well balanced. Not unlike Fuller's ESB only with no sweetness and a touch less malt and a wallop of bittering hops thrown in .

Rerate, 440 ml can, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 6.2%. Reddish brown colour, large off-white head. Moderate aroma of piney and fruity hops. The flavour has a decent balance between the malts and hops. I'm upping the score a bit.
Original rating: Shared 330 ml bottle. Dark reddish brown colour, off-white head. Moderate aroma, some fruity hops. Some lightly roast malts in the flavour, also fairly distinct piney hops.

On tap at the Spaniard. Why does beer taste better at a 400 year old pub? Pours more brown tha red with a small to medium head that is creamy and sits around forever. Nose is nicely fruity with a light malt and hop mix that really works well together. Taste is also on to fruity malt side with a good dose of hops that keeps this between styles. Overall, a nice surprise.
